Just dignosed with CFRD

Hi all. I have Cystic fibrosis, and one potential complication is CFRD, or CF-Related Diabetes. It is very much a combo of both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Anyhow, I'm on 3-4 insulin injections a day since it was clear that the high blood sugar reading were really damaging my lungs (my lung capacity went from 58% to 44% very quickly). Anyhow, just wanted to chime in and say hello, I look forward to reading all the posts and getting more educated.

Yeah, LanieG. Since there is now an adult CF population, about 40% of us develop diabetes to some degree. Makes sense since our pancreas' are usually kaput. I knew I had hypogycemia issues in my 20's, (actually found that out when I had a few seizures from it!) and intermittent BS readings in the very low 200's. But now that I am in my 40's its pushing 400 and hangs out high for quite a while after I eat. Its really messed up my lungs :( Anyhow, as an interesting tidbit, people with CFRD can have close to normal A1C's. Not something I was aware of prior to all this. When I started taking my BS readings at home 10-12 times a day, I was shocked at the highs and huge swings. So far, feeling better on insulin!

Meech, Out of curiosity, what's your A1C? And if you dont mind me asking, what is your target BS reading 1 hour after eating and 2 hours after eating?
