Neuropathy

I am a newly diagnosed Type 2 Diabetic(about 4 months ago), and was diagnosed with Neuropathy of the hands and feet R/T Uncontrolled Diabetes. I have read a lot on-line about this condition and I don't seem to fit into this catagory.

I have pain in my hands 90% of the time. My feet at times are so sensitive I can not stand anything to touch them, but most of the time, they just ache. Feels like the bone is hurting. I was wondering if those of you out there with this Diagnosis would share what you experience with me. I am really ignorant of this Disease. I am on oral med..Avandia Metformin and Amaryl, however am still not controlled. My lowest BS most days is 260-270, have been as high as 490.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Flopsie.  As you know i have both fibromyalgis and diabetes.  To me the pain from fibro and diabetes in my hands and feet are very distinctive.  For me the fibro pain in the hands and feet are ice cold along with a burnning  sensation.  The diabetes related pain in  the hands and feet are tingling and prickly sensations.  So if my hands and feet are burnning alot then i am having a fibro flare.  If my hands and feet are very tingley i attribute that to neuropathy.  There are also times when all four of the specific pains, ice cold, burnning, tingley and prickley feelings are going at the same time and WOW that relates to a super flare.  So far i have not found any med which helps the fibro, ice cold and burnning sensations.  For neuropathy i have tried neurotin, which did not help at all and had sider effects.  Next I tried cymbalta for 8 weeks, which was a total disaster and increased my tingling and prickly feelings.  The latest med out for neuropathy is LYRICA and there are currently 2 threads about it here at HW.  There are also a lot of threads here about CYMBALTA.  At this time I am going to take a wait and see attitude about LYRICA to see what others report about their experience about it.
