Prednisone and other steroids absolutely cause high blood sugar, so doctors always monitor the blood sugar. Sometimes the patient is put on diabetes meds including insulin while they're on steroid therapy. The reason I asked about
family background is to try to figure out if this is a double whammy for you (genetics and steroids) causing the diabetes.
In any case, I'm posting a website which has a lot of information about
blood sugar:
www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/.
I hope the doctor is giving you guidance about
food. Your blood sugar will react strongly to carbohydrates and will rise extremely high after eating bread and any products made from flour, potatoes, rice, corn (and most grains) and anything made with sugar or honey. So, cutting back on this kind of food will help keep the blood sugar lower and in turn probably reduce the need for higher dosages of diabetes medication. This is true for both type 1 and type 2.
I am not on insulin so I cannot answer questions about
this, but if you have any questions about
insulin injections, there are other members who can help with this.
