Seems every store I go into lately greets me with a huge candy display as soon as I'm in the store... When I ran into this at Aco Hardware on Saturday that was it!!! nono Sometimes marketers just don't know the damage they can do! (I don't want to fight my cravings when I'm looking for a new light switch mad )

My grandchildren have three grandparents with diabetes so they are most likely going to develop it if they aren't careful. So Saturday I spent shopping for Easter toys, Bible story books and silly things like soap crayons to treat them with. Just wanted to offer this idea to others who may be considering filling Easter Baskets. The Dollar stores have lots of fun items that will fill up a basket without sugar.

And thank goodness for hard boiled eggs! We are going to make an afternoon of boiling and coloring.

::::grins::::....Russel Stover makes sugar free peanut butter cups that are to die for.  On the slightly more expensive side but absolutely sinfull, Godiva makes sugar free chocolate bars in milk chocolate, chocolate with almonds and dark chocolate.  The dark chocolate is positively SINFULL.

Now for the adults, Pure Protein makes a high protein bar in chocolate fudge that is 32 grams of protein and only  2grams of net carbs.  Also Lean Body makes a similar bar.  They make great easter basket stuffers for your diabetics. (typically available at your local GNC). 

Last but not least, I think Jeannie should do a seasonal sideline to her wedding cake business and make sugar free easter bunnies for shipment throughout the continental US.

I've never worked in sugar-free chocolate. I should probably look into it. The downside of sugar-free is the gas and loose stool that accompany it! That's why I don't indulge in sugar free candy very often. But I will tell you that working in chocolate does cure chocolate cravings. When I work with genache (boiled whipping cream poured over chocolate pieces and stired to a pouring consistancy) or when I paint chocolate leaves the constant smell of the chocolate in your nose makes you immune to it for a few days. Of course getting it all over your hands, the countertops, your utensils and cleaning up the mess kind of takes the 'thrill' out of chocolate. It's messy to clean up, just like icing.

I've found a couple of sugar-free chocolate bars in local supermarkets here in Australia.  I must have a look online again.  Last time I looked there was a place specialising in these things, but it was closing down!  The only gas I've had thus far is the stuff in a cylinder that powers my barbeque and I fixed a loose stool with some wood glue and a clamp...
