Two-Week Success With Byetta

Just a post for those "anxious" and starting on the Byetta 5 pen. I am a pre-diabetes patient that is under control during the day (through diet and exercise and metformin 1000 twice a day) but with outrageous a.m. reads, often over 200. I am about 50 pounds overweight....but only 37 now.... I HAVE LOST 13 POUNDS in 17 days and I finally feel like my discipline for diet and exercise is paying off instead of making me crazy. For the first time in TEN YEARS my morning numbers are under 100.

I have had NO symptoms except a bit of dizzines and queasiness a couple of late evenings....not associated with any particular food that I can notice. I feel GREAT, tons of energy and STABLE emotions---even with my 86-year old father in critical care for 5 days, I felt like I could keep it together. In fact, Byetta seems to have "balanced" my moods as well as my glucose.

I have stopped taking metformin altogether for about 4 days and the numbers continue to get better. My appetite peaks at mid day when I eat a larger, healthy meal and limit meals morning and evening with my shot. I have not wanted to snack which is SO odd for me.

I plan on moving to the 10 pen but am not sure the length of time I will be on this drug. My endo seems to feels that with both weight loss and the "healing" that can come with Byetta, I may not need anything at all in 6 months or perhaps a lower dose of metformin. HAS ANYONE COME OFF OF BYETTA to better glucose control.

Warren the Wise- I know you are really up on the Byetta... so if I may ask a question or two I would be grateful. I having been taking Byetta for almost a month. Along with Glyburide x2 daily, I was taking Glyburide, Glucophage and Actos.  At first my numbers leveled down to the 150's and proceeded to get better from there. Now they are starting to rise and when I test they are between 175 and 225.  I am having some dental work done so I thought maybe its stress.  I have lost 8 pounds and have a little bit of nausea problems with the Byetta. I am wondering if I need to move up to a 10 or should I change my oral medication?

I live in a small town and the nearest endo is 200 miles away, I go to a GP that I had to explain with little knowledge the Byetta to.  Does a 10 have increased side effects?  I saw a message where one person said they couldn't function for 3-4 hours.  I love the Byetta and feel so much better and I don't want to give it up.  Any ideas?  Also I might add I think this forum is absolutley wonderful.
