Hi there,
metoprolol acts on the sympathetic nervous system whereas ACE inhibitors act predominantly on the kidneys.Metoprolol reduces heart rate and may cause impotence, both of which are not seen with ACE inhibitors.
Metoprolol can mask the early warning symptoms of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)due to it's blocking of the sympathetic nerves which usually respond to hypoglycemia by pulling glucose from the liver into the blood circulation. The early warning symptoms of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia are not masked by ACE inhibitors.I hope this is of help.
