gl861, you'll find a lot of information on this forum site. Read through past postings and you'll learn many facts about
diabetes and treatments. I had high readings (150's, maybe not high for some but high nonetheless) and my doctor prescribed a blood sugar meter which I've been using since October. After hits and misses with foods, etc., I've lowered my numbers to the 80's and 90's because I cut out nearly all carbs. I eat lots of vegetables (raw and cooked), fish and chicken and salads. I also found that I have to eat smaller portions than before, so I eat snacks between times: nuts, a lettuce/canadian bacon wrap, mozzarella stick. My numbers went up when I ate a whole chicken breast (even a small one) with vegetabes, so I eat half a one with the rest of the meal and eat the rest of the breast later or the next day. I also exercise around 30 to 45 minutes a day. So, for me it's what and how much I eat and the exercise. This works for me and every
body is different but I do feel it's healthy. I get carbs, because we do need them, from the vegetables, beans and the occasional cracker, carrot or noodle in the soup. Learing about
nutrition is a must. I wish you good luck.
