Saying hello from the hospital

Just letting you all know that Amanda is in Children's Hospital. I have been staying here with her. They started her on metformin today. There is still a possibility it is type 1, but so far they are trying type 2 meds. They want to try to avoid insulin if possible because we are doubtful Amanda will be able to recognize a low or be able to let us know. I guess if it is type 1 we will have to figure out something.

Best wishes to you and your family. Amanda has a great start with you to help her and all of us to lend a hand if we can. How old is she by the way? From what I understand, getting onto insulin staright away is the best chance to retain some beta cell function if that's still possible. It's never easy as you know, but the long term outcome may be better that way?

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your daughter. She is so lucky to have a caring and assertive mother like you. She'll be needing a strong advocate and you have the knowledge to be sure she gets the proper treatment right from the get-go.
