As a Diabetic, IBD & IBS sufferer I can sympathize with you. What veggies are you eating at the moment. Corn, peas, anything with skins will aggrevate your bowel. Your Mum is right about the Metimucal. It does help alot. I may take a day or 2 but is worth it in the "end" Try sticking to low fiber veggies. at least for a day or two to see if it helps. Also try to stick to steamed chicken. Fats will also aggrevate your IBS.
As for Colonoscopies, They are nothing to worry about. They are a good tool to use to make sure you do not have problems besides the IBS. They give you very good drugs and you will not remember anything about getting it. I am an old pro at them I will have my 8th is 15 yrs Aug 13. So I can say it is nothing to worry about and is an excellant diagnostic tool.
