Greetings All,
Haven't had access to computer in a while. My son was supposed to come Sunday and bring his laptop, but it didn't work out. He came to visit but forgot his laptop at home in his haste to come visit me before he went to a super bowl party. My husband visits everyday, but he has no laptop computer as my son does. My son stopped by this morning because I kinda nagged him into bringing his laptop over and spend some time here visiting me. I look forward to going home sometime next week. The doctor told me sometime around the tenth, but one of the nurses at the home said it couldn't be before the 11th. as they don't ussually discharge patients on the weekend.
What's left of my legs continue to heal very well without any problems. They have had me doing some modified pullups while sitting in my wheelchair to stregthen my arms and upper body muscles so I can transfer from my chair easier. I never have had a lot of upper body strength in the past, but you'd be surprised on how three or four weeks of exercise can build them up. I can lift myself up with my arms now to get out of my chair and use the bathroom or get into bed by myself. This is something I could barely do a month ago. It keeps getting easier all the time. It's something I need to master as I will be doing it for the rest of my life. Even if I'm lucky enough to be able to be fitted with prosthethic legs in a few months, something the doctors have called doubtfull or at least very optimistic at this time, I know I will always need to use my wheelchair alot, if not all of the time.
A couple of the aides and orderlies have started calling me Legless Linda. It was started as a joke but the nic name as kinda stuck. Afterall I have no legs any more and my name is Linda. I didn't like it at first, but they didn't mean any harm by it so I told them it was OK. Even my son kidded me about when he heard one of the aides call me that last week. Everything else is going pretty well and I really look forward to going home sometime next week.
