New to Metformin ER. 1 glass of wine ok?

Hello. I just got a rx for metformin. Going on vacation soon to the tropics and will need extra help to keep bs low. I usually have one glass (and no more) of red wine with dinner. I think this helps my bs stay low. I will be taking metformin ER at night 500mg. Do I need to give up my glass of wine with dinner? Any thoughts will be appreciated.

You should ask your doctor about this. It will depend on the state of your liver and a couple of other factors. My doctor told me to enjoy wine - within reason after six months of being on regular metformin, but said no to one of the ladies in my hospital group.

Are most on the regular metformin Or the ER Metformon? Which works better? Doctor said the dose is lower for the ER. What kind of wine can I drink? Sure miss a glass once in a while but afaid to try because I don't know which is safe??

I'm on regular metformin and I drink red wines. I did get the go ahead from my doctor. It's nice to be able to go out to a restaurant and order a glass, especially if I can't be sure of the carb content of what I order- it drops my bg level.

Hi Montana,
I just want to say that medication with alcohol is dangerous of possible side effects,i am no doc but most medicines say so,unless u keep few hours apart between medicine and wine,rest ask yr doc for more info ,thats the best bet.
