Hi Linda, welcome to our Forum. It's hard to give a definitive answer to your question. Yes, no, maybe. 148 is on the high side for sure but it's not critical. When they did that blood test, what had you eaten and when? In any case, I would say a normal's blood test most likely wouldn't have been so high. The glucose tolerance test that you take tomorrow will tell if you can metabolize carbohydrates normally. It might be that you'll come out high on that too. Depending on your doctor, there might be a couple of approaches to this. She might put you on meds right away and give you an eating plan, or she might see if you can get the blood sugar under control yourself with diet and exercise and then test you a couple of months down the road. I hope it's the latter because I think you should have a chance to get it under control yourself. To do that, you would have to change to a new way of eating by cutting out the obvious carbs (all the white food except cauliflower) and eating more protein and vegetables. Then, engage in a regular exercise program. If I were you, I'd try that first but I'm not a doctor. This is just my advice. Some factors lead us to be diabetic, like family history and being overweight. If you need to lose weight, a lower carb diet will definitely help you do that. Read through some of our past threads here about
food, and you'll see what others eat. In the meantime, don't despair if you come out higher than you'd like on the test. There are lots of members here with great advice with lots of experience to share. Let us know what happens, ok?
