Yes, it can do a flip in middle age and turn into type2 diabetes, it's true.
I don't have a vast knowledge of hypoglycemia but I believe that the object is to eat small, low glycemic meals several times a day to avoid insulin surges and the hypos that result. This would involve proteins, fresh veggies and salads, vegetable drinks like V-8, nuts, olives and generally, same as I eat, nothing white except cauliflower.
Best to avoid starches found in breads, pancakes, waffles, donuts, bagels, cereal, pasta, rice, grits, cornbread, potatoes and corn. These foods will jack up your insulin output and this is when the hypos happen because the body puts out too much insulin. When using beans and brown rice or barley you should include fats in the meal to slow the stomach emptying time and sort of time release the carbs.
