Blood Sugar Monitor (***)

I have recently been diagnosed with diabetes, So I purchased a blood glucose monitor from Rite Aid (Tru Test), anyways, I used the machine for 3 days and my levels always showed up basically normal,  My father in law is down visiting and he also tests, but he uses a different monitor I believe it was called a Contour.  I took my test using his machine and mine, on my machine the reading was 125 on his machine it was 185.  I went back to rite aid to buy the glucose solution to test the monitor to see if it was accurate, unfortunately they didnt have any, they did exchange my old monitior and test strips for a new monitor, however when I tested the new monitor against my father in laws, the readings were once again about 50-60 points difference.  I then tested my father in laws monitor with the glucose solution that was provided with his monitor, the test checked out ok, So I am now really confused what the hell is my real blood sugar reading..  Has anyone had similiar problems with there monitor? If it was just 10 or so points I could understand but come on, there is a big difference between a 140 reading on my monitor and a 200 reading on his.  I would like to return the monitor and exchange it for a more expensive monitor,but I do not have insurance and cant afford the extra $80 or so, to get a different monitor.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I use the Accu-Chek Aviva and it is very accurate. If you have a computer, go to their site. They are giving this meter and 60 test strips free. Free Style and One Touch are also giving free metes right now. Heck, order all three free and use the one you like best:) Good luck.
