What a coincidence that I also got a cortisone shot last Monday, March 30th. I had already messed up my hba1c during the last year, but this shot made a complete mess of by blood glucose. One day before lunch, my blood glucose meter greeted me with a HI... not too good when that happens, huh?
I raised my Lantus shots by about
50% and took extra 10 IU in the middle of the night and am adding about
the same 10 UI for each meal while at the same I'm avoiding even more carbs. I think I'm slowly getting a control of it, or the effect is wading down, but I'm still sweating all the time even if my blood glucose was on the target.

I know that's hard to control with those shots. I wonder if a pump would make all this better for you?

My doctor seems confident that I can handle this and wasn't too alarmed. The effect seems to be subsiding after a week anyways. Then again, I actually forgot to ask about
the pump.

I've had shots and pills before and had to deal with the high readings and that was before I was on metformin. Depending on the steroid dosage, it took days or about
a week or so for the readings to come down.
Will-Sandy is also a type 1 and he's on a pump, maybe he can post about
that if he sees this.

I'm running into the same thing at the moment. I had a dual shot in the hips on March 27th and my
numbers shot from 139 and am now running around 230-400ish. The doctor doubled my glyburide but
it got so I couldn't do the do so I stopped taking it. I've been off for about
a week now and the numbers
are still up but am feeling better...not so lethargic. I'm starting the sauna and did an hour tonight in
the hopes it might help. I don't do sugar and have cut way down and carbs but I'm wondering if the
3 steroid shots in 3 months might have messed me up.

Welcome back Nana. I'm sorry about
needing the steroid shots, and, yes, they definitely mess up your blood sugar which is why the doctor probably increased the dosage. I hope you have gone back to taking your medication. I don't think it's a good idea to completely go off it. How are you doing now?

272 this afternoon...had steak and toast for breakfast. Did English muffin and peanut butter for lunch.
Probably fish for supper....don't do the bun either. Don't eat any condiments or drink soda..take coffee
and tea plain. Slept pretty good after the sauna and drank 20 oz water in the hour I was in it. Going to
do another hour tonight. Haven't started back on the med yet as I wanted to detox a bit before I load
it back into the system. Only been a week without it. Want to start walking the 2 miles again but I
found another tumor in my foot...waaaah. Have an appointment with the surgeon next month as that
one and one in the knee are growing. Good to be back ;)

Nana, 272 is way too high! The toast and English muffin are keeping your blood sugar high and you're not taking your meds! I don't think the sauna will do anything for your blood sugar but if it makes you feel better, that's fine but don't do it thinking it's going to help lower your blood sugar.
I would be concerned about
your readings, to be honest. You need to get them lower.

Lanie, I wonder if the meds just stopped working. I react to so many things and this is the first one
I've tried that worked. I was fine before the shot. Will try calling the doc on Monday and see what
he wants me to do. I know doubling the dose sent it even higher and after 2 weeks with it skyrocketing
I stopped the med. The hospital called this morn and said that the colon cleanse stuff would keep it
up for a few days and it's only been 2 so far. Keep you posted...thanks.

Nana, who ordered the colon cleanse? What's in it?

It was that wonderful 5 year colonoscopy time. My grandpa died of colon cancer so it was time to get
checked out. My number the day before was 239, down to 199 and then up to 250 before bed with
nothing to eat. The day of the test it was 242 in the morning. The doc said that the stuff would make
sugar rise...so with 3 steroid shots and this within 3 months I wonder if the system just got overloaded.

Oh, I see. Hmm. That's important to get the colonoscopy. Well, about
your blood sugar.
Please
call your doctor and tell him what your blood sugar is. Maybe you should be on another medication, something that can get it down. I've had steroid shots in my hips as well as prednisone pills and after a few days (about
4 or 5), my blood sugar went back to my normal but then I don't eat any toast or other bread either.
Blood sugar that high can damage many of the body's organs: the heart, eyes, kidneys, circulation in the feet and legs especially.

Good, Nana! Promise you'll do that! Report back here, ok? I'm concerned about
what's going on.
