Hi,
I am usually over on the IBS forum but thought I would stop by here today!!!
My husband is 41 and has been diabetic since he was 9 MONTHS OLD. He was the youngest patient ever diagnosed in Joslin Clinic back in 1967! He has been on an insulin pump since 1996, he has diabetic retinopathy. He has had 2 vitrectomies. (sorry for the spelling) One in 2004 and one in 2007.
His blood sugars can range anywhere from 21 up to over 500. We have had our share of 911 calls due to lows.
His insulin pump supplier called him the other day and told him that our insurance is finally going to cover the Continous Glucose Monitor. It hooks up to his pump and gives him a constant reading of his blood sugars!!! I am so excited. He can set an alarm to go off for a range of numbers. So if he doesn't want to go any lower then 90, an alarm will sound to tell him he is going low. Then if he sets it for say 200, then he can give himself insulin so he won't go any higher.
Does anyone on here use one of these? All the paper work should be done in the next couple of weeks.
