Johnny said it all. Consistant exercise and keeping bs levels down is the way to fight it or at least stop it in its tracks. Pin, are you doing your daily walk/swim/stairclimbing? (Just picking on you here, I know we all get super busy and 'forget' to exercise)
Judging by how long I've had neuropathy, I've had diabetes for over 25 years... only diagnosed 10 yrs ago... Some of the damage is already done.
