Hello Everyone,
I usually post regularly to the prostate cancer forum on behalf of my husband who is a healthy Pca survivor. However, today I have a quick diabetes question which I was hoping someone may be able to assist me with.
My father is 75 years old and after a few years of being a pre-diabetic, he has now been on medication for 1 year and is classified as having diabetes. He is travelling overseas next week (from here in Australia), on several long flights. Currently, he is well controlled on 4 tabs of 500mg diabex each night, and a low GI diet. I have suggested to my mother recently that he now wear TED (stretch - toe to above knee) stockings on the flights to assist blood flow and prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis along with calf exercises on the plane (which he is well informed about). My question is.. Do you think dad is at more at risk of developing a DVT now that he is living with diabetes? Or is my suggestion that he now wear TED stockings a little over-the-top and unnecessary? Overall, we expect he will have a good trip without problems, but he is going on it alone, without mum. I am sure you know the sort of stockings I am referring to, but they may be called other names elsewhere. I did have a look at some back posts but could not see anything about this topic. Thanks for your opinions.
Good health and happiness to everyone. Kind regards, Lana
