Stoped metformin

My doc stopped my metformin< I was feeling very ill every day and ended up in hospital to straiten out my sugar, we got it under control but I was taking 3000 mg metforman lantus 16 units and Rapid 6 units morning and sliding scale for the rest of the day. 

 

Now he took my metformin away is there anything else he might give me or will he increase my shots do you think?

 

Sick of needles and pills and jabs. confused

My medications are Salazopyrin 3000mg, plaquinal 100mg, morphine 40mg twice daily,coversyl 10mg, diaformin sr 3000mg, actrapid injection sliding scale + 6 units in morning, lantos solostar 16 units,epilum 400mg, omeprazol 20mg, amlodipine 5mg and panadien forte and tremadol 50mg when needed.

Hi Rev - sounds like Metformin is one of those medications that just doesn't agree with you. There are a number of other oral med options your doc could prescribe. You could also have a change in your insulin requirements with or without the addition of a different oral med. Unfortunately, Diabetes is one of those "specific to the individual" type of conditions so, what works for one may not be the right combination for another.

I know how frustrating it can be but, if you're open to trying some different regimens, you will eventually find the one that suits you. The important goal is getting and keeping your BGLs in range, whatever the dose of meds to help you do that. Of course, diet and exercise will help tremendously and may even reduce the number and/or level of meds you have to be on - but you know that, right :-)

Thanks Phishbowl I guess I'm just sick of the pricks and jabs and pills they get you down when everything hurts when the body gets tender.  Yes, I do exercise as much as possible but the AS slows that down quite a bit.

doc will get to the bottom of it I guess.

Hello Reverend, I hope things finally settle down with the meds.  Sometimes you need to change what you're eating when you're taking these oral meds, so if there are special instructions be sure to follow them.  Remember that as diabetics, we cannot metabolize carbohydrates normally and they may work against the meds.  It might take awhile for the body to settle into its new routine on those meds, so learn as much as you can about them from the product inserts and your pharmacist.  Good luck.
