Question: best time to take other meds when taking byetta shot?

"I have been on Byetta along with Actos for approximately three months, prior to that it was Lantis and numerous other fixes. My diabetes stems from Agent Orange in Viet Nam. My diabetes was first discovered in 2000. My question/statement relates to the other medications I take for high blood pressure, thyroid and gerd. When should these other meds be taken in relation to the Byetta shot to achieve the desired effects?
The only real effects I have from Byetta is that everything but sweets taste terrible. Tough to overcome."

Cliffff, I can't say I know much about Byetta but, I am on thyroid meds and was on Actos for a time. Both these meds have instructions on how to take them effectively. I know things like antacids, grapefruit, calcium, iron, and even protein can affect the drug's efficacy (effectiveness). They are recommended to be taken 1 hour or 2-3 hours after food - i.e. empty stomach. Although thyroid meds have been commonly recommended to be taken in the morning before breakfast, some find it better to take before bed because 1) the digestive process slows down at this time (allowing for more absorbtion) and 2) less chance of having a meal like breakfast interfere with efficacy. However, some report that thyroid meds' somewhat "stimulating" effects can affect sleep. Again, we all differ.

If not your doctor, I might think your pharmacist is a good place to ask this question. There are some Byetta users here so, hopefully they can chime in on when they typically take their shots. Take care.

Cliffff, have you asked your doctor and your pharmacist?  Those are the professionals.  Everyone here may have personal experience but no one here is a professional.  Pharmacists are trained in this particularly.
