can you guys guide me in buying a good glucometer....

Sufi, there are many on the market and they probably all do their job pretty well.  Your insurance will probably pay for it.  Some manufacturers provide free meters, which is a good idea so you can test them out to see which one you like.  How long have you been a diabetic?  Do you take medication?

sufi - there isn't really one glucometer that "works" better than another; accuracy of test results follow the same standards. The difference is in the bells and whistles on the meter and in the cost of the strips. Most pharmacies (whether advertised or not) have a program whereby you buy a box of 100 test strips and you get the meter for free. Manufacturers have this program online, too. With a prescription, most insurance will cover the cost of the strips but they often have stipulations (how many a month for example), so check that part out. It's the test strips themselves that are expensive so, base your decision on what your insurance will cover or what you can afford.

i hav heard about life scan meter...they say that its very accurate and easy to handle.
i am confused between accu check and one touch.
i think accucheck is pretty cheap compared to onetouch.
....wat do u say?

Sufi, as Phishbowl said they're all pretty much the same except that some have more features than others.  The ones that are cheaper are the ones that only measure the blood sugar and probably keep a 14-day average for you.  You didn't answer my questions.  How long have you been diabetic?  Do you take medications?

If you have insurance then try one and if you don't like it try another. The meters are often free because they want to rope you into buying their expensive test strips. If you are paying for this yourself then you can buy a less expensive one online with cheap strips. I've been using the Prestige IQ meter for about three years and I like it. The meter and 100 test strips was about $100. The replacement strips cost about 30ยข each. The meter uses AA batteries and works very well for me. I have no insurance so this was my best deal. My readings have stayed right in line with the lab results.
