One thing I learned on this site is that the real stuff is always better than the sugar free chocolate. A lot of people here know that their Blood Glucose reacts much different to milk chocolate versus dark chocolate. That is due to a lower sugar content. Try dark chocolates over 63% cocoa and see what you like. I was never a big fan, but lindt makes an 82% cocoa bar that I love. I buy a small bar every once in a while in put it in my desk so I can have a one inch square every once in a while as a treat.
You need to take your medications as directed and be aware of what you are eating, but by all means it is okay to live a little. People who are successful with their diabetes care understand that it is okay to splurge once in a while. The occasional french fry or candy will not hurt your overall numbers and will allow you to maintain a normalcy that keeps you on the road to success.
Others may disagree, but I am still losing weight and my A1Cs are great. On top of that I feel great. Different things work for different diabetics. That is the nature of the disease. Remember you are a person with diabetes and learn to live life according to new rules.
I am a person with diabetes, but diabetes will NEVER have me.
