Thyroid disease and diabetes?

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's (autoimmune thyroid disease) 28 years ago (I am now 47). Two years ago I had two surgeries to remove my thyroid because of thyroid cancer along with RAI. I am wondering if there is a relationship between diabetes and thyroid disease in any way. Does having one make it more likely for the other?
