Avandia

So Avandia is back in the news.  I used to take Avandia until 2007 when I was diagnosed with a borderline abnormal ekg.  The cardiologist thought it may be due to the Avandia.  Unfortunately, it is permanent as successive ekgs still show the same.  Fortunately, he was it is extremely mild and was caught before any major damage could be done.

Those of you taking Avandia, please read the news reports and talk with your doctor.

I heard last night that the FDA will probably make a decision on whether or not to pull Avandia off the market this week.

I know. I first learned about the problem back in 2006 when I was hospitalized for acid reflux. At that time the doctor thought it might be the Avandia but because he couldn't get any firm information from the mfg he gave me a lower dose. Then my insurance wouldn't cover it at the dose I was on so he lowered the dose to minimal until 2007 when I was again in the hospital and they ran cardiac tests which showed a borderline abnormal ekg he took me off it with the comment "why take the chance? Even though the mfgs say no--I'm seeing more patients with similar issues." I went off it then. I still see a cardiologist every 6 months because of the ekg issue. Glad I stopped taking it.

I really hope they pull it off the market.

It will be gone soon. The "shark" lawyers are already circling the waters. Ads should be on TV soon and that will be the end of Avandia. Once the lawsuits start accumulating the bad publicity will stop the doctors from prescribing.
