am a type 2 Diabetic diagnosed in year 2000. I am on 3 X 500mg Metformin a day.
Around seven years ago I had a small stroke TIA. Then about four years ago due to raised choloresterol my doctor started me on Simvastatin (40 mg in evening)
Around that time I was getting more and more frequent episodes of pain through my central chest starting from the back and with some of these attacks I even had pain in my jaw. The pain would subside after a few minutes but it was enough to make me stay still during the attacks and as the symptoms seemed to me to be classic angina I was very worried.
As to be diagnosed would have cost me my driving licence, my job and probably my life as I know it I just carried on ignoring the attacks which got as frequent as one a week or more.
However very gradually at the time I started on the Simvastatin over a few months the frequency and intensity of the incidents decreased and after a year I was only getting a slight episode around twice a year. At this time I can't remember the last attack but it was probably two years ago!
I have heard much good said about Simvastatin and that it can even reverse damage, not just prevent it. Has Simvastatin has saved me from a heart attack! Has anyone else had this experience or any comments?
