Transverse ridges on fingernails

Hello,

Does anybody know anything about transverse ridges on fingernails? I got them on both thumbnails and index fingers. No color changes on the nails.

I searched online and believe they are Beau's Lines. Causes can be systematic infection, diabetes, malnutrition etc.

Anybody knows anything about this? if it is caused by diabetes, how bad is it?

Hi mip, I don't know any more than what you've said, actually.  I also looked online and just came up with possibilities of illness being the cause.  That is, the ridges would appear after the body has gone through some kind of illness or even surgery and then go back to normal.  Were you sick in the last few months?  Perhaps your doctor could answer the question about the significance.

I was not sick in the past few months, physically. Like fever or cold. But did go through an extremely stressful, emontional event in the past six months, which led me probably, not eating enough or well. I lost 5 pounds, dropped under 90 pounds.

I checked my blood sugar in the past six months, they were good numbers. I am not on any medications.

I am going to see my doctor this week. thanks Lanie.

Sorry about the troubles you went through, mip.  Sometimes, they can't be avoided and you know they can affect us in different ways.  I'm glad your blood sugar is alright but you need to be sure you're eating regularly so you don't get sick.  Take care.
