Welcome to HealingWell, montebello. I cannot answer any questions or give advice about
l-arginine supplements. I don't take it. I would suggest you ask your prescribing doctor and also consult a pharmacist. And I would not suggest taking it without asking your doctor.
I will give you the standard advice about
eating for diabetes and high blood sugar problems, though. The more carbohydrates you eat, the higher your blood sugar will be. We all know the obvious carbs like potatoes, rice and any food made with flour and sugar but almost every vegetable out there has carbs, some more than others, so testing is important for individuals to see how their blood sugar behaves when eating things like squash, carrots, peas, etc. Those have quite a few carbs although not as many as potatoes and corn (which is a grain, of course).
Protein is important in our diet but we should not eat protein exclusively because we need other nutrients which is why we should be eating lots of leafy greens and colorful vegetables, nuts, and some dairy.
Metformin works with a low-carb diet and exercise. Don't take it on an empty stomach or if you eat greasy/fried food and a lot of carbs because it can cause stomach upset.
Here is a website that has a lot of information about
blood sugar. It's nick-named Blood Sugar 101:

Diabetes Solution by Dr. Richard Bernstein, who is a medical doctor and a type 1.
I'm glad you found our forum and I would be happy if you started a new thread to introduce yourself!
