Hi
I just found this site today and feel that I may find some good info to help me out. I am handicapped and can only do swimming as an exercise. I have Cholesterol issues along with Type 2 diabetes. I don't believe either is horrible, but my doctor keeps changing medicines and dosage with little result. My HA1c has been under 6 for over 11 years. Cholesterol was always under 200, but Trig, LDL and Glucose were a bit higher and HDL a bit low. I had one HA1c spike in 2007 to 7.3 which is when I was diagnosed and started Metaformin 500Mg. Every reading since then has been 5.7 or less. Weight loss, Diet change and 500Mg of Metaformin kept the Diabetes under control. My numbers in 10/2009 were Chlo=155, Trig=144, LDL=98, HDL=31, Glucose=123, HA1c=5.3. - then the doctor said the cholesterol needed treated! The following changes were made every 3 to 6 months. Lipitor 20Mg did nothing to the numbers, but caused muscle pain - Halted Lipitor. Tried Niaspan 500 and 1000 Mg Metaformin raised all my numbers and gave me Hot Flash. - Halted Niaspan. Pravistatin 20Mg and 1500 Metaformin caused muscle pain but lowered numbers to Chlor=144, Trig-129, LDL=83, HDL=35 and HA1c=5.7- Halted Pravistatin. Continued 1500Mg of Metaformin only. Chlor=165, Trig=146, LDL=98, HDL=38, Glucose=103, HA1c=5.2. My doctor now has me on Niaspan 500 again, 1000 Metaformin and Januvia 100Mg. I have no idea what the "GOAL" numbers are anymore and wonder if all this medication is helping or hurting. I'm ready to dump it all and go back to supplements plus Metaformin. Any advice/info? Would be appreciated
