Apple Cider vinegar

Has anyone tried Organic Apple Cider vinegar? If so, any pro/con comments? "Supposed" to lower gluclose levels.

Yes it works! Thanks for posting. Two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in water before bedtime reduced my fasting blood sugar the next morning from an average of 100-105 to 90-95.

Somebody needs to add this information to the threads about "Dawn Phenomenon".

I was using 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a tumbler that contains over 2 full cups of water. I have no trouble drinking that much water during these hot summer months.

Some days I use less vinegar and water but still drink it every night and it really seems to lower my blood sugar.

Don't drink it at night, Healthbug. Drink it in the morning.
Are you diabetic?

I'm not diabetic but so far it seems to usually lower mine. I am usually at 92 on my meter, on the days I took the vinegar (2 tablespoons straight before bed) I was in the low to mid 80's twice, and at 90 the third time. It's hard to say though as I am in the 80's sometimes too. It also slightly decreased my sugar spike when I took it before eating a bagel, however it made me spike 20 min later than expected- if hadn't kept testing I would have thought it was much lower than it really was- but I was about 7 points less after a bagel with the vinegar before compared to no vinegar.

Just wanted to check one more time with the following question:

Is anyone still using the (Bragg's) Apple Cider Vingar at nighttime (or during the daytime) to reduce fasting reading?

If so, is it still effective? And if so, how much do you take and when?

"Apple Cider Vinegar Before Bedtime Diabetes Study #2

]In August 2007 a second trial was conducted at Arizona State University, this time to determine the effect apple cider vinegar would have on the fasting blood sugar levels of people with type 2 diabetes.

Test Procedure - Vinegar and Diabetes

11 people with type 2 diabetes, who were not taking insulin but were taking prescription oral antidiabetic medication, were given either 1 oz cheese and water (placebo group) or 1 oz cheese and 2 tablespoons of vinegar at bedtime for two days.
A cross over trial was conducted a few days later, at which time the placebo group received the vinegar and cheese, and the vinegar group received only cheese and water.

Fasting blood sugar levels were measured every morning.

Test Results - Vinegar and Diabetes

The researchers found the average fasting blood glucose levels fell by 2% with the placebo (cheese only) and by 4% with the vinegar and cheese.

On closer examination of the data they found that those participants with the highest fasting glucose levels benefited the most from the evening vinegar drink - their fasting blood glucose levels fell by 6%."

Subjects who consumed apple cider vinegar had 6 percent lower fasting blood glucose levels than those who consumed water. The authors proposed that vinegar may have altered the glucose synthesis and breakdown cycle in the liver, helping to control the morning blood glucose rise known as the dawn phenomenon."

I was thinking the same thing. How would I handle 2 tablespoons of ACV.

I tried 2 teaspoons and that was a bit hard to get down.

Just wanted to find out if the others who said they used it and liked it were still using it.

Hi and welcome, Nana Monster. Some medications (both prescriptions and over the counter) will raise blood sugar so we really have to be careful. Metformin has been an effective medication and is prescribed in different strengths. It's really important to try to keep your blood sugar as near-normal as possible because elevated blood sugar over an extended period of time can lead to damage of several organs.
