Hello. I am the mother of a 22 year old Type 1. He was diagnosed at age 10. He has been on a pump for almost 3 years. He has no health insurance and lives with two other fellows. He insists he doesn't want to go to school and I think he is sleeping too much and his bg's aren't stable. For the first time I hear him complain that diabetes is a nightmare that is taking over his life and he sees how he is limited, for instance pursuing construction or truck driving. He had an accident while LOW and it really affected the way he looks at his independence.
I think he needs some counseling to learn to accept his disease. He is good about talking to me- but I don't just want to lecture him. Any ideas?
