Hmm. I wouldn't say bad meter. First of all, all these situations can skew meter results: weak battery, old/out-dated test strips, dirty fingers and the fact that all meters are allowed to have a plus or minus accuracy of up to 20%. Here is the latest Consumer Reports results on meters (numbers in parentheses refer to accuracy):
1. Accu-Chek Aviva (89)
2. FreeStyle Freedom Lite (89)
3. Accu-Chek Compact Plus (89)
4. FreeStyle Lite (88)
5. Bayer Breeze 2 (85)
6. Up & Up (Target brand) (82)
7. ReliOn Micro (Walmart) (82)
8. One Touch UltraSmart (82)
9. TrueResult Blood Glucose Monitoring System [also available under pharmacy brand names) (82)
It's very common to have different results if you test three times in a row.
