Diabetic Retinopathy

Do any of you have diabetic retinopathy ? I am just wondering what kinda of treatment you have been receiving from your eye dr for it. Just to know if im getting the best possible help for me.

I have retinopathy but as for treatment, nothing yet. It does not really affect my vision. We have control visits at least once a year and it depends very much on the situation. Laser treatment would only be given to clear out some clogs or what do you call them. They can see those under a microscope. I had one but it was in the middle of the eye, in the area of sharp vision, so we just waited it out. Eventually it did clear out and now I'm back to regular control. I don't know about any more advanced treatment because I never received any. In some cases they can give an injection into the eye ball but I have not had that either, so I do not know.

I have had diabetes for 44 years and in September was diagnosed with non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy. I was terrified. I do have issues with my vision; I see spots and when my sugar gets low I almost cannot see at all. Diabetes definitely affects my eyes and you have to keep your blood sugars under the best control possible. I try to keep my sugars under 150 but it is so difficult. I am a Type 1 diabetic (was diagnosed with it at age 2). Keeping your sugars well maintained is the best way to prevent your eyes from getting worse. Having diabetes is a full time job but it can be managed. I hope you keep yourself healthy and good luck.
