So guys, here's a sensitive subject. ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION. I've found that it doesn't discriminate between Type 1 and type 2 diabetes, everybody with this disease gets it eventually!
So when your woody doesn't have wood anymore, what do you do and why did this happen? In my case it kinda crept up on me and I noticed the beginnings of it just before the other symptoms of diabetes led me to the doctor for my initial diagnosis.
I found universally, even the doctors I've visited are a bit squeemish about discussing this subject. There are 3 things that diabetes does to you that affect us guys. The first is decreased blood flow or lower body aterial constriction. Kinda why you see so many foot problems but it eventually migrates up to the waist. The second is Neuropathy. ::sighs:: yes, not only does decreased blood flow affect the quality of that erection, but the desenstizing of the nerves starts to take away from the overall experience also. And last but not least, diabetes can tend to drop you testosterone numbers. Im not sure what the link is, but with all the endocrine systems that the disease throws out of wack, eventually something is affected that drops your testosterone.
If your desire is waning at the same time that woody is.....take heart. Have your endocrinologist do a testoterone level check when he does a standard lipid scan blood test. If you're on the low side there are fast easy treatments to boost your testosterone levels and bring your libido back up to normal.
Now, what to do about fixing that part attached to your libido. Viagra, Cialis and Levitra are quick easy fixes that really work! In most cases they can have you back in pretty good shape in no time flat. I happen to prefer the original (Viagra) but I do get the side effects of stuffy nose and sometimes a slight headache.
OH and if you use BYETTA!!!! don't forget that this drug delays your stomach emptying so if you've taken any of these drugs, better put your libido back in your pocket cause its gonna take MUCH longer for the drug to kick in!!
Now for the bad news guys! If you've suffered any kind of neuopathy, chances are that you aren't enjoying sex as much as you used to. Well, Im not all that sure this is something that anyone can fix. Other than bringing your sugars under really tight control, you've got nerves down there too. And when they get damaged the sensations get substantially numbed. This is something Im not happy about, but I've learned to live with!
So, I've rattled on long enough, but this is a definate problem that we diabetic guys have and no one seems to recognize how big an impact it can have on your psyche.
