Okay, due to age (51), weight (BMI upper 20's), family history, and high, but "normal" fasting glucose readings over time (mid to upper 90's), I have been self checking regularly to reassure. I've been using something cheap called the TRUE2go, and it's given me the occasional 100-110 reading, but mostly 90's. I've had it for 8 years. Looking back at lab data, it's often tested HIGHER, though I never once thought to do a test coming out of the actual lab. Most comparisons are from the general time (within a week say).
I had testing done last week, and my home meter (TRUE2go) that morning read 94. I did take an aspirin to bleed better, but the lab an hour or so later said 110. I bought a new meter called Contour next EZ, that seems to agree more with the lab. It has been giving me readings in the 105-115 range ever since. My old meter told me this morning 94 (new 106). Which do I believe? Granted, I'm already trying the good things to lower it regardless, such as weight loss, better eating, etc. But I hate not knowing! I've wasted a lot of test strips, but can say that the new definitely reads higher overall, but is also more inconsistent (106-125 on same stick!) The old tests lower, but seems to tell the same story repeatedly.
Thoughts? I also did a few (OCD) A1c home tests, that tend to favor the lower readings, but how accurate are they? Is it possible that the lab reading is the high one? Could the aspirin have affected it?
