Hi Healing Well Diabetes community,
I'm Hillary Ojeda, a NY City Lens Reporter, and I'm writing a story about
Flatbush Diabetes. It's a subtype of diabetes that was identified by Dr. Mary Banerji at Downstate in Brooklyn in 1994. She named it after the Brooklyn neighborhood and today it is also known as "atypical diabetes," "ketosis prone diabetes," "idiopathic type 1," among others.
I think it is important to write about
this kind of diabetes as it could help people to understand the complexity of the disease. Diabetes is not just type 1 and not just type 2, and each patient experiences the disease differently.
I joined to forum to reach out and see if someone with Flatbush Diabetes could help me and be willing to be part of this story.
I appreciate any help and look forward to hearing from you
thank you
Hillary

Welcome to HealingWell, Hillary. I am not aware of any members that fit that descript
ion but there may still be some that visit this site. HealingWell is based in the US and our posts are in English but we have members from different countries, too.
I would suggest that you put your email address in your profile so members can contact you that way. You can do this on your Profile Page.
You might also have more luck if you contact local endocrinologists in the NYC area or the Health Department as there are several pockets of people who might fit this subtype in Manhattan and Queens. (I'm from Queens, so I'm familiar with some of the neighborhoods.)

Thanks for the response Lanie
I added my email to my profile.
Unfortunately doctors and city officials have so far been unable to help find patients.
Sometimes i am me (HT)...
