Stroke Symptoms

Dear All:

Yesterday morning I had a terrible experience. From around 10 AM I started feeling a bit dizzy, but nothing significant. Consequently, I did some exercise for 30 mins. and then as I returned home I started feeling quite dizzy. It was not that I lost my balance or lacked co-ordination of any sort, but it was quite strange. I felt a little sensation on my right arm and leg also, but I am not sure whether they were significant enough or not. Anyway, I became quite panicked at that time and started praying. As I finished praying, I felt a lot better and the dizziness was gone.

The symtoms were not like that of a TIA - which I had earlier, but I could feel that my neck was quite stiff. In fact, massaging the neck helped subside the dizziness.

I have a bit of a low pressure with the systolic pressure being continuosly under 65.

Also, twice last week I suddenly felt dizzy as I was running up a long fleet of stairs.

Any possible suggestions from anybody?

Im in line right behind Jeannie and agreeing 200%.  Call a doctor.  Those are scarey symptoms at the very least.  Hope he simply tells you there's nothing there to be concerned about.

 Five years ago I kept feeling dizzy I kept going to my Doctor and I was told I had nothing to worry about I kept going to him in the end he told me it was in my mind and also told my wife who was with me then my wife had doubts  I was put on antidepressant's but I was still feeling unwell in the end I was sent for a scan they found both main  arteries in my neck to the brain were getting blocked right side 98% and left side 70% I was then given an operation on the right side which they unblocked left the other side because that dropped down to under 50% after the first operation. But now 4 years after that operation my left side is completely blocked they cant do anything about that but with the one that was repaired that is OK I only hope that it keeps working I did not know that when I was feeling dizzy that I was having TIA'S I was told this after I had my operation and that operation decreases the chance of having stroke's.I am now on Statin's plus Plavix. to thine my blood.So always double check with your Doctor or get a second opinion.That operation as saved my life.

Dear johhny,

Was the dizziness constant or did they only happen sometimes (at a particular time)? Did you have any other symptoms, as weakness, numbness?

Also, how did the blockage of your left artery increase over the years (high cholesterol)?

The operation i had was an Carotid-Endarterectomy.And the dizzy spell's were when i got up from sitting and when i looked up at anything like drawing the curtain's. And they lasted just seconds

Thanks for yuor replies. I recently undertook the carotid tests and the doctors did find a blockage - but it is quite insignificant, at around 20-30%. I had the TIA becasue my blood glucose was so high (>500) at that time. Since then I haven't had any problems. Since then, the doctor has put me on a low fat diet, which is really the same as before - hence no uncomfortable changes. Also, I have started out working at a Gym and feel well. The dizziness was entirely due to the medication as I tried a day without them and felt absolutely fine!
