Ok, gestational diabetes is diagnosed from a number of different angles, but in your case it was the fasting numbers. Typically when your fasting blood glucose is above 126 mg/dl (7 mmol/l), you have gestational diabetes. As I said earlier, and the goal of treatment is to keep your blood sugar in the normal range. This is the best way to prevent complications for the baby and a difficult delivery. In order to achieve these goals:
- Fasting glucose should be kept at 95 mg/dl (5.3 mmol/l) or lower
- 2 hour post meal blood sugars should be kept at 120 mg/dl (6.7 mmol/l) or lower
So, you are a tad off the 95 and could probably up your insulin dose, but you absolutely have to talk this over with your doctor. Trust me, you are a bit high but not THAT high and a slight increase in your before bed insulin will probably get you to where you want to be in the morning.
