Mary,
Always glad to make a new friend but sorry for the reason. Welcome to HealingWell.
Phishbowl pretty much covered it... You're thirsty because your kidneys are desperately trying to dilute the sugar in your blood and as soon as your blood sugars get in line you should see the thirst disappear overnight. Do you have a testing meter? What are your numbers running in the morning when you first get up? Are you on a diabetic food plan? Have you had your kidney function tested lately? Are you going to an endocrinologist or a gp? Enough questions...
Recipe for 'Sun' Tea made on the kitchen counter...
Sun tea is a very delicious form of tea that gets its mellow flavor from the slow infusion into the water at low temperatures vs. quick infusion from boiling water for regular tea.
Mint Sun Tea
Get a nice gallon size glass jar for tea at the dollar store. Glass works the best for tea. In the morning put about
two cups of really hot tap water into the jar. Add 5 - 6 regular tea bags. Add two 'Plantation Mint' tea bags. Make and eat your breakfast and load the dishwasher. Fill the jug to the top with cool water. When the water darkens the tea is ready... at room temp this is about
an hour. Outside in direct sunlight the tea will darken more quickly because of the increased heat.
I use mint sun tea all summer because it's refreshing and doesn't need sweetening. It has a cool, light flavor that isn't bitter or sour the way some tea is. Tea also acts as a mild diuretic and will help reduce swelling in your ankles, but only mildly.
If I get tired of tea I switch to sugar free koolade and crystal light. If you make it in the evening a two quart pitcher will usually be able to be diluted to make about
a gallon of drinkable liquid in the morning. I always have to dilute mine because it's too strong and too sweet for me. Your taste may vary.
When I'm out to eat I always order water because the waitress can easily goof up a diet soda order giving me regular soda and my numbers go thru the roof. If you want to order diet soda at a restaurant be sure to explain you are diebetic so the waitress will be careful. At home I enjoy a diet soda when others are having a cocktail. You must make it a priority that there is diet soda for you to drink at home. If you're doing the grocery shopping then only purchase diet soda. The rest of the family can buy their own soda with sugar in it. You really can't have it unless you are having a low blood sugar problem from insulin. I'm not trying to pick on you, just help you to understand. Regular soda is kind of like poison to you from now on. Having a little glass of 'regular pop' is kind of like having a little glass of 'poison'.
Get back to us with some numbers and we will try to help you get them down. Diabetes isn't always fun but we try to make it livable. Everyone here is very helpful and kind and most of them really know what they are talking about
, too!
Talk to ya later!
