Gestational Diabetes - When does it end?

I'm 38 weeks pregnant with my second pregnancy with gestational diabetes. My last pregnancy, I delivered at 35 weeks and the G.D. went away within hours of delivery.

This time, I'm still pregnant and it seems that the diabetes is already going away. I've been on insulin (both kinds) and it seems that even though I'm decreasing doses for my overnight insulin, every morning I wake up with my blood glucose lower and lower. Last night, I actually had a hypoglycemic reaction and had to eat a snack in the middle of the night. When I awoke, my BG was only 68 even though I ate at 2AM.

Is this normal? Is this any indication that there may be something wrong? Or could this be good news for me?

I called my doctor. I was told that after 37 weeks GD begins to taper off. It would have been nice to have been told that before I stressed out. Anyway, I had did the fetal monitoring for 30 minutes. The baby is fine and no sign of macrosomnia.

Our baby girl was born on August 2. 7 pounds, 14 ounces, 20 inches. APGARs of 9 and 9. She was very healthy and we went home early. She's a very strong baby and can roll on her side and hold her head up already.
