I'd just like to add that, as for all transplants, you'd have to take anti-rejection drugs for the rest of your life (or that of the transplant), and they can have serious side effects. That's why genetic engineering and stem cell research are so important. But that's where more work is done to make these drugs better, and also the risk of these side effects may well be less of a problem for some than the possibility of getting complications of diabetes.
