confused  Hi Everyone!  I just got the results from my last Dr.s visit and they are GREAT!!  I have lost a total of 26 pounds since July and my A1C is now 5.9!  My total cholestrol is 126 and that is down about 100 points in the last 2 years!  Now for my "whining"..... I am afraid to get my flu shot!!  EVERY time I have ever gotten one I have gotten sick within 3-5 days with the flu! skull    Now I know that everyone says that the virus in the injection is "dead" and can't cause the flu...I must have already been exposed, etc...but 5 different times???  I was scheduled for my shot last year and about 4 days before my appointment I got the flu!  I guess that nasty bug just likes me!  I am just recovering from a VERY nasty upper respiratory infection and should probably get the pneumonia vaccine as well, but I am scared of that one too! LOL sad Any suggestions, advice, support, etc??? Hope you are all doing well and gearing up for the holidays!

Congratulations on your weight loss and good numbers. I guess all I can say about the shots is Get them!

I got the flu about 15 years ago and it turned into pneumonia. I about half died and developed severe asthma during my very long recovery. I can not tell you how devastating these two diseases can be even in our modern world of antibiotics and respiratory drugs. They are both still real killers and not to be taken lightly, especially from people with chronic diseases like diabetes where we already have one strike against us.

Get the shots. The pneumonia one only has to be taken once every four or five years and the flu one will help you with this year's most common strain. I get it on schedule every year. I still get colds but have never been as sick as I was that winter.

If you usually have a reaction, Deb, then try to time the injection so that you'll have a weekend to recover from the symptoms.  Regardless of side effects, getting the 'real' illness would be far worse. 

Your A1C is amazing.  Keep it up... and let us know what you are doing to achieve such drastic changes.  :-)

Thanks for the encouragement! I saw my doc last night at a halloween party and he pretty much said the same thing!! I am going this week...I promise! As for my results I can sum it up in one word...BYETTA! This drug has really turned things around for me! I FINALLY feel that I am moving forward and not "stuck". Since starting the Byetta I have just felt better....I guess cause the bg was down! I have been able to eat less, exercise more and have gotten really serious about food choices. The Byetta kind of forces that one on you! I have had the "nasties" but any side affect has been worth the results for me! I also take vytorin for cholestrol...seems to be working!! Thanks so much for the encouragement and advice! Ya'll are great!
