i have been a diabetic almost 2 years now and inside of that 2 years doctors and nurses have failed me by trying to keep my levels stable i was on injections for the first 6 months then i was put onto various tablets now at the moment i'm on 1 avandia 4mg along with 2 glucophage in the morning along with 2 glucophage in evening along with 1 novnorm tablets  its all unsettled at present and i'm hungry all the time running to the toilet weight has fallen off me my doctors just seem to be using me as a guinny pig this is leaving me depressed i feel ill all the time since i have become a diabetic this hasn't been controlled from day one because i'm getting readings that the meter is just reading HI sowhere do i go from here i would like to here the opinion from my friends here in the forum thanks again

Hi, Derek,
From the sounds of it...your meds aren't working. Your sugars are obviously running hi if your meter can't even give you a value (mine doesn't read over 32/560-ish), and that you are using the bathroom so frequently. The biggest concern I have is the rapid weight loss, though. That could possibly signal something that needs attention now. The high sugar levels are putting you in danger of ketoacidosis (you don't want this!), but coupled with the weight loss...I'd be making an appointment with my Endo pronto before you end up in the emergency room.

Is your doctor a general practitioner or an endocrinologist? At this point you should be seeing an endo for sure. Your pancreas may have quit producing almost all insulin altogether and this could be deadly serious. I'd be firing my present physician and finding a new one, like Phishbowl says.

my own doctor is just the family gp but i go to my own hospital where i can be seen by diabetic nurse and other doctors but not sure if they are endo's,
jeannie you must remember i live in northern ireland and its not that long ago local hospital doctors gave a child here 3 month's to live the childs school teacher done reasearch on the internet and contacted doctors in the states they done the op on the child to remove a brain tumour their was a programme on our local telivision about it and the doctors in the usa said that the royal victoria hospital in belfast was 10 years behind in medical practice so how can i win , when you go youy are just told to try different things and come back again in 3 months,
i have sort of been starving my self as last 7 days i have been keeping my range in around 10.0 12.0
my range in the morning is rougly never above 10.5

Ok, so call long distance, get an appointment with an endo in a big city and get yourself on a train, or hitchhike or something and get to a doctor that knows what they are doing. Your numbers are not good and you need someone to help you with meds or insulin or something. You can also start keeping a food journal along with your numbers so you can see what foods are doing what to your blood sugar. You should be exercising as well. Write this all down so you will have a day by day record to show to the doctor when you go. In the mean time, exercise can't hurt. Good luck.

jeannie what do you people aim for over there i've been told to try and keep mine below 10.0 and another what do you aim for first thing in the morning reading

100.  In your case settle for below 120, but if you are under "very good control" you are 100 or less.

warren 100 is 5.6 on my meter have never been that since diagnosed i'm usaually around 180 which is 10 on my meter

In the morning I'm usually 4.7 to 5.8 in your numbers. Start writing all your numbers down, like I said, and find yourself a doctor who can maybe give your local doctor some direction. You have to be proactive about this because if you don't take care of you, no one else will either. Keep trying!
