WOW ... it was an AWESOME visit. If ONLY because she told me I wasn't a diabetic!!! Ok, pre-diabetic ... I used to sort of smirk when you guys would say you were "pre-diabetic" but hearing those words today has MADE MY YEAR!!!!!!!! She said I should have about
ten years before it goes full blown .... and that all I need to do is keep on keeping on.
My good cholesterol is still low (41) but my bad is now under 100 which pleases me to NO END!!!!!!
We talked about
stress, which is my number one reason for elevated blood sugar levels. I learned a lot about
exercise ... that exercise lasts in the system for about
48 hours and that it does not need to be intense or long. Just movement ... right what you've been saying all along, Jeannie!
I am near the top of the healthy BMI range and she wants me in the middle of it ... which means I need to lose ten more pounds. She gave me a diet to follow, but it's WAY more carbs than I eat now. I asked her if I HAD to eat that many carbs and she said as long as I was taking a multi-vitamin and eating SOME grains I'd be fine. I do eat oatmeal for breakfast so I know I'm ok there.
I also got the results of the heart monitor ... it does appear that I am misfiring ... meaning my heart is out of sync. Go figure. But it's not going to HURT me and if I continue getting breathless/dizzy with it then they may "zap" me (yes, she used the word "zap") to get it back in rhythm.
I think I'm going to keep dong what I'm doing and amp up the exercise. This is all such a huge blessing and you guys have made/are making this journey so much easier. I love knowing I'm not alone.
Oh. The other thing that messes up my blood sugar is illness. When I had a bad cold for a couple weeks earlier in November it raised my numbers. The only thing I can do about
THAT is build up my immune system, I guess.
Thanks for being here. And there.
