Hi AMM... I used to be on Lantus for about
a year before switching to Levemir. Need about
15% more Levemir and have to split it into 2 shots but it stings a lot less, I don't have to use vial & syringe (hated those 8mm/28 guage needles), way less peaks and valleys, and I don't have to throw out almost half my insulin because it expired (Lantus loses efficacy after 28 days exposed to air).
Was all set to go on the pump over a year ago (met all the criteria, education, etc.), but haven't been able to meet the financial requirements of getting one. $7,400 plus $250.00 a month (even with a financial plan), is just not a commitment I can make at the moment. I'm up to speed and ready to go if/when my situation changes but, until then, I'm content with the "poor man's pump"
Been trying a few things out recently so, I'm anxious to get my latest bloodwork results at my appointments this week. I think I might just do better then I expect (I'm either an optomist or I've got really low expectations - LOL)
Take Care
