Gestational Diabetes, Adult Onset. ? about my sister

I'm very curious. Is it at all possible to test negative for gestational diabetes, but have (or soon develop) Adult Onset?

I'm reading up on some problems that my sister is experiencing, and they have me very curious about whether or not she should be tested for Diabetes. However, I believe when she was pregnant with her youngest, she did not have gestational diab.

When my sister was around 6 months pregnant with her 2nd child, she apparently developed an abscess. The doctor didn't do much about it. He figured it was an ingrown hair, and told her to use a louffa in the shower, and to apply a compress to it. The abscess eventually went away, but then later came back- gradually, she would get them under the arms, on the inner thighs, the back of the legs, and on the stomach. They would go away, then come back every couple of months. Maybe 2 months ago, her stomach was hurting her, and she noticed a large bruise there. It was thought she had a hernia, but she went to the doctor- and although the abscesses were gone by the time she got to see him, he did blood work and determined that everything was normal except for she had a blood infection- and that the bruise on her stomach was really her capillaries bursting. She has not had the abscesses since then, but she is still getting bruises on her. She's had treatments of antibiotics, but obviously they aren't helping.

Not sure if this is related, but also during this pregnancy, she developed all sorts of bizarre "allergies"- she can't use deoderant anymore, and she needs a water softener and something to filter out the chlorine for when she's taking a shower. Otherwise her skin burns.

*She also says that she is developing frequent infections of all sorts- yeast, kidney, etc.. I know she's frequently had a problem with getting extremely nauseous when she hasn't eaten anything.

There is a correlation between gestational diabetes (and having large babies 9# and over), and the later development of type 2 diabetes. I have a good article, but I can't find it immediately- I'll try to search later and  post the reference so that you can share it with your colleague if you like. When I was first diagnosed, the CDE asked me if I developed gestational diabetes- and I told her I didn't think so- but my girls were 9#3oz; 9#8oz; and 9#15.5oz. She told me it was likely that I had developed it, but they didn't test for it back in the dark ages. Now, I think it's routine! And here I thought it was my Russian peasant genetics- sandy
