Last night's dinner was a barbequed pork chop, lots of fresh salad and veggies. I smothered my salad in olive oil but when bedtime rolled around I was ready for a snack. I decided on a banana covered in peanut butter. Figured my sugars would show up high this morning from the banana but I just love them! Low and behold, 79. I still don't have this thing figured out... but that could become my favorite bedtime snack if the results are repeated tomorrow.

The funny thing is, the dietician was always saying 1/2 banana at a time... Interesting. confused

The dietitian I saw, told me that 1/2 of a banana is one portion of fruit. I thought it was kind of dumb- I asked her what to do with the other half- since they turn brown- then told her I'd freeze them and bake up some tasty banana bread- lol I thought she was going to fall off her chair!

I'm glad to hear of your great AM number- be sure to let us know if it's repeatable.  I've been drinking a glass of  milk at 4:30 when I get my husband up for work and my AM number is down to about 96 consistently again- I could be persuaded to add a little fruit snack before bed if it dropped me down to the low 90's or high 80's (where I was before I started to take Januvia).

You know, Sandy, the funny thing is, I haven't seen a morning sugar this low since I dropped my Avandia... And because I take a diuretic I'm always potassium challenged anyway. this could be the answer to a dream come true! Two of my favorite things every night!!!!

The best part is, when I was little, my best friend's mom was an Elvis fan. She used to fix us grilled peanut butter and banana sandwiches for lunch, "just like Elvis". I was quite small but I thought it was neat that her mom liked Elvis, just like our babysitter did. She drove a convertible and was very 'hip'. Somehow that flavor, the bananas and peanut butter got stuck in my brain as a very happy thing, like some people feel about Elephant Ears or cotton candy from the fair.

I know.. I'm silly. tongue

That is interesting Jeannie! I read bananas are a no-no, so I haven't had one since I was diagnosed. Nice to know that the experts can be wrong :-)

Well, I've repeated it for a couple days now. Last night's dinner was chicken and 4 bean salad with red onions so there were a few more carbs at dinner than salad nights. Made the dressing with splenda. Anywho... Banana and peanutbutter before bed.. This morning 101.

It's working......

That's great! I had no snack before bed, and my morning reading was 130! YUK! I think I'm eating dinner too late eyes . My dinner was skinless chicken stewed with tomatoes and sliced olives, squash and brown rice (I think I like that darn rice too much, although I know I didn't have more than what the box calls "one serving"). I'm buying some bananas! tongue

Tangerine, the brown rice and tomatoes probably gave you the high morning fasting number because of the carbs.  Try substituting a couple of other vegetables that you like (not potatoes!) to replace the rice and tomatoes and I'd bet you'd have a much lower number in the morning.

Was it summer or winter squash? The rice is definitely gonna give you spikes but you should be able to eat a couple tablespoons of it. Try increasing your veggies by double and using the rice as a condiment.

It was summer squash... I thought brown rice was ok, but I guess not. I guess I'm spoiled from the Dreamfields pasta, because I can eat that with no problems...... I wish someone would come out with a rice product as good as that! Ugh...........

Where do you find that dreamfield's pasta.  I have heard such good things about it, but can't find it anywhere.  I know you can buy it online but, with the shipping, I find the cost a little out of my price range.

I get my Dreamfields at Krogers.  If you go to the Dreamfields website, there is a store locator- that's how I found it.

I almost cried when I read about your Elvis sandwiches - my favorite uncle used to serve them up when he would watch my brothers and me. He looked a lot like Elvis, and my aunt is tall and beautiful- very glam (even to this day and she's almost 80!).  They drove around in a T-bird. They were unable to have kids of their own- so they adopted the nieces and nephews every once in awhile. We lost him to a brain aneurism when he was only 42!  Those were good times and good memories I'd almost forgotten- thanks :-)

I am so happy about your good morning numbers- you are doing so well, and I am even more happy that you are off the Avandia.  Are you still losing weight? I know I lost for a good 2 months after I quit the Actos.

Yup, still losing. Was down 23 pounds at the last doctor visit... I don't have a scale so I'll have to weigh myself when I swim tomorrow and see if I've lost any more. It's not the lack of Avandia that is doing it... It's the starchless eating.

And now I have blossoms on my tomato plants, should have cherry tomatoes in a few weeks... Yum! If I can only keep them away from the Dalamation!!! That dog is crazy for tomatoes! My hubby has been bringing home strawberries, blueberries, avocados and mushrooms for me. I tell him that he spoils me! But it's so much better than the Snickers he used to bring home!

about the peanut butter & bananas... Isn't it weird how a food can trigger a memory?

Jeannie, I'm so happy for you. You just must feel so darned good!!!

Isn't it amazing how one's tastebuds get retrained??? The taste of a TRULY fresh berry or veggie just amazes me. The thought of a warm, sun ripened tomatoe ... yummmmmm!
