Hi dmjain6,
I was just recently diagnosed, so I am not even close to being an expert like others on the forum. I was, however, hyPOglycemic for years, which causes the shaky and sick feeling when sugars are too low. I had LOW sugars for years, and then at 55, it "flipped" to diabetes. I think the best advice would be to ask your doctor. Blood testing (at the doc) is the best way to tell. If her sugars are going too low, that can be bad too, so it's best to see a doctor and see what's going on with her. As far as the advice that diabetes is no big deal... well that is simply not true... period. When my symptoms started, it was a matter of a couple of weeks before my eyesight was affected. Now that I'm on meds and my blood sugar is somewhat under control, it is better, but the effects of diabetes can be VERY serious. I know she is young and not overweight, but she is symptomatic.... so I would say for her to get checked out.
