I have my results, any advice please?

Hi everyone, hope your all well.

I went to the gp today for the results from my second test. The initial fasting glucose level was 11 and the one taken 2 hours later after drinking that vile stuff was 12. My gp has said that this means I am diabetic, however she wants me to go back Friday morning for a confirmation test?

She said the 11 & 12 results were extremely high. Could anyone tell me what I could or should be doing in the meantime, if anything? I know nothing at all about diabetes. Any advice would be really appreciated as I'm quite scared now about what to expect. My vision is still blurred, will getting my glucose level down get rid of this?

Regarding the steroids she said it was possible I have steroid induced diabetes, but she thinks I would have to have had a predisposition to getting diabetes anyway. My next test as the last one is without steroids. Thanks again for any help. x x

Ok, I just posted to you because I was wondering about your test results... Until you have your next test just take all the grains and tubers out of your diet. This means, no bread, buns, cookies, crackers, cakes, pancakes, rolls, donuts, rice, macaroni, spaghetti, all pastas, corn, anything that is derived from potatoes or grain.

Breakfast can be eggs a few times a week or cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese with fruit. (No juices except for V-8 or tomato juice just now.)Don't forget to take a vitamin each day.

For lunch I often take pieces of raw spinach or collard green and make a wrap with deli chicken or ham. Drizzle some olive oil and have a piece of fruit and I'm good to go.

Start eating a serving of protein that is about the size and thickness of the palm of your hand at dinner. Add some salad with olive oil and a bit of regular dressing for taste, a few vegetables, (not corn or sweet potoates at this point) and a piece of fruit for desert.


You could have some nuts each day and remember to eat small meals more often if weight loss is an issue. Start keeping a food diary and get yourself a glucose meter so you can keep track of which foods send your blood sugars up. (Doc will probably give you a prescription for a meter so if you have insurance wait till then.) Meters that test on the fingers are much more accurate than the ones that test on the arm.

Hi Lion, I was probably the same as you. Predisposed to diabetes but steroids kick me over the side. My BG numbers for 200-350 when I first found out about it. I noticed it took a little while for my numbers to go back down. I'm in the normal range now but I exercise most every day. Even if it's just a 20-30 minute walk. I'm eating better and have been able to drop both of my insulin and even cut in half my metformin meds within a few months. If you are like me and it is pred induced you will probably get good control fairly quickly. and I do drink diet sodas but limit myself to one a day.

I don't know what your 12 means. If it is your HA1c number that is very high. The goal is to get below 7. My last two tests were 5.7 and 5.9.
