Hiya fergusc... my breakfast carb/insulin ratio is 1:8 and I find that 2 units of Rapid is enough to cover the food. I'm usually hungry by 11:30-12:00 and, even though it's both a 3 hour post prandial and my pre-meal lunch reading, I almost never have to add a "fix" dose with lunch. I'm usually between 4.7(85)-8.0(145). Sometimes I go low and sometimes I have to take a 1-unit 'fix' dose with lunch but, not often.
The toast I eat at breakfast is pretty much the only (whole) grain I eat. Tried the oatmeal (all of them) - hate everything about
it and it didn't improve my cholesterol or glucose control. Cereals are pretty much out, too. Except Cheerios. I seem to be able to eat 1/4-1/3 cup with not too much trouble if I have eggs or other protein with it.

p.s. just to clarify on the pasta/rice thing...I add about
a cup to about
10-12 cups of stir-fried meat and veg. A potato serving is about
1/2 medium or 10 fries about
