Hiya Jeannie,
Not sure if being Type 1 makes it different but, I seem to find it all depends on what I'm doing at the time I go low. If I go low while I'm active, I'll probably get that swaety shakes at some point, telling me I need sugar. When I test I'm usually at a pretty safe low (3.3-4.0/60-72).
If I'm lounging watching TV or reading a book, I find I can feel "strange" for a while before my brain kicks in entertains the possibility that I should test to see where I am. I often get the reading on my meter, telling me I'm low, at just about the same time my body starts to go weak and sweat & shake. I'm convinced that it's just that little bit of exertion: to get up, walk across the room and get my meter to test, that is just enough to push my body over the edge to start feeling the physical symptoms.
Not sure if this helps but it's been my experience that diabetes can throw you for a loop at any given moment. Ain't D grand?
Take care,
Kris
